Who we are
AltForm was born from a clear conviction: that laser-based manufacturing technologies, additive, welding, coating, and hardening, were ready to leave the prototype room and enter the production line. The industry just needed someone willing to engineer that transition seriously.
We started in 2015 as Prima Additive, the additive manufacturing division of Prima Industrie, one of Italy’s most established industrial laser groups with decades of experience in high-power laser systems for manufacturing. That heritage gave us our foundation: rigorous engineering culture, deep process knowledge, and a long-term view of what industrial production actually requires.
In May 2025, Sodick Co., Ltd., a Japanese global leader in precision machine tools, acquired a majority stake in the company. The acquisition was an acceleration of what we had already set in motion. With Sodick’s industrial scale, global distribution network, and precision engineering DNA, we gained the platform to pursue our original ambition at a different magnitude.
In November 2025, we became AltForm. The name reflects what we have always been building toward: Advanced Laser Technologies for Manufacturing, a company whose scope extends beyond any single process or product category.
The team, the engineering culture, the obsession with industrialization: none of that changed. What changed is the scale at which we can pursue it.

AltForm is a member of the Sodick Group, a publicly listed Japanese industrial company headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, founded in 1976.
Sodick is a global leader in precision machine tools, best known for its electrical discharge machines (EDM) and high-speed milling centers, with over 60,000 machines installed worldwide. With approximately 3,700 employees and operations across Asia, Europe, and North America, Sodick brings the industrial scale, manufacturing precision, and global infrastructure that AltForm’s growth requires.
For our customers, this means something concrete: AltForm’s technology is backed by a global organization with established sales, service, and application engineering networks.
The combination is deliberate. Italian laser engineering and process innovation paired with Japanese precision manufacturing and industrial discipline, operating through a global distribution platform already serving the industries AltForm targets.

Our global reach is built on two complementary layers: the established international infrastructure of the Sodick Group, with sales, service, and application support across Asia, Europe, and North America, and a growing network of specialized distributors and local partners who bring AltForm technology to industrial customers in their markets.
