Turin, August 2026. The city that built Italy’s industrial identity is hosting one of the most important gatherings in global manufacturing research. We are proud to be part of it.

From August 23 to 29, 2026, the 75th CIRP General Assembly takes place at the Politecnico di Torino, bringing together approximately 700 researchers, engineers, and manufacturing professionals from universities and industry worldwide. AltForm is among the sponsors of this edition.

What CIRP is, and why it matters

Founded in 1951, CIRP — the International Academy for Production Engineering — is the world’s leading authority in manufacturing research. Its membership is intentionally limited: around 180 Fellows and Honorary Fellows who are internationally recognized scientists, 150 Associate Members, and roughly 170 Corporate Members representing industrial partners. Election to Fellowship is a lengthy, rigorous process. The community is small by design, because the goal is depth of exchange, not breadth of attendance.

The General Assembly is the annual gathering of this community. It is where the research that will shape manufacturing technology over the next decade gets discussed, challenged, and refined. Topics range from precision machining and forming to digital manufacturing, sustainable production, and additive manufacturing processes, materials, and industrialization: all areas that sit at the core of what AltForm works on.

Turin: the right place for this conversation

The 75th edition is organized by the Politecnico di Torino and INRIM, the Italian National Institute of Metrological Research. Hosting it in Turin is more than a logistical choice.

Turin is a city with a century of industrial manufacturing history, a strong university and research ecosystem, and a growing concentration of advanced manufacturing companies. It is where AltForm is based. Being a sponsor of this event in our own city carries a specific meaning for us: manufacturing research and industrial application are two sides of the same project, and they belong in the same room.

We will have an exhibition space at the event. If you are attending the General Assembly, we welcome you to stop by and talk about what we are building: advanced laser technologies for metal additive manufacturing, at the intersection of research-grade capability and industrial production requirements.

Our portfolio covers Powder Bed Fusion systems from compact single-laser configurations up to large-format quad-laser platforms, Direct Energy Deposition systems for repair, cladding, and wire-based deposition, and automated laser coating cells for high-volume industrial applications. Across all of these, the connection between the research environment and production readiness is not an afterthought. It is built into the architecture of how we work.
